Abstract

During pandemic, many learning activities have changed from face-to-face to online.  Teachers, especially language teacher, have to face various obstacles following the situation.  Speaking skill is one of the language skills must be mastered by students.  Measurement criteria must be set to evaluate the mastery of these skills. Assessment of Japanese speaking skills should be done accurately regardless of online and offline learning.  In order to simplify measurement of students' speaking skills in learning Japanese, the teacher can choose a rubric technique.  Rubrics can be used as an alternative in measuring speaking ability.  However, to develop a rubric is not an easy thing.  Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a training for Japanese language teachers and students to increase their understanding of speaking ability assessment using rubrics.  The purpose of this community service activity is to provide input to teachers about the rubric of speaking skills assessment through seminars and workshops. Other output is to verify whether training for the preparation of  assessment rubric was effective for students.  The test results show that t value is 6.51 and t table is 1.68, then it can be concluded that Hk is accepted and Ho is rejected. Thus, it can be said that these seminar and workshop can effectively increase the knowledge of speaking assessment rubrics for participants.
