Abstract

The Development of Pocket Books “The Challenge Book†about The Character Learning for The Fifth Grades of Primary School. Script, Jakarta: Faculty of Education Science, Elementary School Teacher Education, State Univercity of Jakarta. (2012). The purpose of this research is to produce a pocket book, that is the challenge book with focus on application of the values of characters education, such as the value to God, the value to themeselves and the value to others.The development is using a model that focuses on product development which as Rowntree model. This model devide the process of the development into three stages; planning stage, writing preparation stage, and writting and editing stage. The evaluation is to use readbility and formative evaluation. From the data result cloze test trial readbility, the result are obtain in the percentage 78%, which mean the difficulty of the book in this level of easily-understood by student. The overall data result from the expert trial is very good with the average value of the percentage is 86%. While the data obtain from face to face tryout is very good with the average value of the percetage of 93% and data from result of field trial is verry good with an average value of percentage of 86%. Meanwhile, in assessing the activity of book that was test in field trial stage obtaining the average value of 83. It’s mean that development of pocket book “the challenge book†is effective to implement character education in fifth grade of primary school.
