Abstract

Empathy and sharing are foundational aspects of young children’s social character development. However, in real school settings, many children still exhibit behaviors that reflect low empathy, such as reluctance to share and lack of concern for peers. This study aims to analyze the lack of empathy and sharing behavior among early childhood students through observational approaches in a school setting. The research used a descriptive qualitative method with non-participant observation and informal interviews with classroom teachers. Results indicated that children tend to be egocentric, grab toys, and rarely show social concern. The lack of habitual practice, minimal social simulation, and absence of consistent reinforcement appear to reinforce such behaviors. The study highlights the need for consistent social-emotional learning strategies in collaboration with both teachers and parents.
