About AI in Academia: Obstacle or Facilitator?

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) continually introduces new innovations in all aspects of human life. In educational settings, AI offers instant feedback, tailors course materials in real-time, and assesses student engagement using interactive techniques. It enhances teaching methods by providing a distinctive learning experience for students. However, educators using AI in classrooms often fear significant job losses. As automation increases due to the rapid advancement of AI, machines capable of handling complex tasks may eventually replace human workers across various sectors, including education. The loss of employment can adversely affect an individual's livelihood and disrupt the social unity and community sense derived from meaningful employment. Therefore, it is crucial to find a balance between the advantages AI offers and any potential ethical or related challenges. This balance is vital not only for optimizing educational outcomes but also for ensuring that AI serves as a tool for empowerment rather than a source of contention. This study analyzed 16 articles and is particularly interesting for future research using a quantitative approach.

SRI "SARAH" YUSRIANI, Indonesia Open University

Sri Yusriani is a postgraduate student and assistant lecturer at the Indonesian Open University specializing in Communication Science and Human Resources Management. She successfully defended her master's thesis in January 2024, graduating as the best alumnus. Professionally, she excelled in supply chain management at FK Distribution Denmark and also contributed to ICRC Denmark. Known for her expertise in writing and public speaking, Yusriani has received many awards and actively guides more than 70 authors in scientific writing, demonstrating her commitment to sharing knowledge and serving the community.
Yusriani's educational background includes completing high school at SMU YKPP 1 Komperta Plaju Palembang in 2001, studying Geography at Padang State University, and Arabic Language Education at the Indonesian Education University from 2002 to 2005. She also pursued foreign language studies, studying Polish at Jagiellonian University in Krakow from 2010 to 2012. Sri Yusriani has been the best moderator and presenter at several international conferences and a reviewer for some journals. From 2022 to the present, she attended the Danish language school 'Sprogskoler' in Billund, Denmark. Outside of her professional and academic career, Yusriani has been recognized for her achievements in English speech and Islamic short story writing competitions in Indonesia. Together with her research colleagues, she won second place in the master's thesis competition at the 14th IEOM (International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management) in Dubai, UAE, in February 2024, 3rd best paper in 6thISBEST 2023, Best moderator in ICBEM 2023, also got award as best presenter in ISC-BEAM UNJ in June 2024. She is currently preparing for her PhD program at USM, Malaysia.

Dr. Shine Pintor Siolemba Patiro, Indonesia Open University

Dr. Shine Pintor Siolemba Patiro is an esteemed Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Postgraduate Studies at Indonesia Open University, where he currently serves as the Functional Head of the Management Program. He earned his doctoral degree from Gadjah Mada University in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. Dr. Patiro is a prolific author, having published multiple books and numerous scientific articles in Scopus and Sinta-indexed journals. As a senior lecturer and department head, he consistently inspires and motivates his students to achieve excellence in their academic and professional endeavors. With a profound passion for scientific writing and renowned expertise in quantitative research, Dr. Patiro is a respected figure in his field, widely recognized for his scholarly contributions and mentorship.

Kelik Heri Purnomo is a postgraduate student at the Open University with a Civil Servant career of more than 14 years at the Central Bureau of Statistics. Imran Machdani Zega is a postgraduate student at the the Indonesia Open University with career as a Civil Servant spanning more than 9 years ini Central Bureau of Statistics.
