Abstract

This study aims to obtain a clear description of learning Arabic in the Islamic Boarding School MTsN 31 Jakarta. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods and included in realistic ethnographic research with data collection techniques through field observations, interviews, and documentation. This research was conducted in Islamic Boarding School MTs Negeri 31 Jakarta at Buaran, East Jakarta. The study began from September 2019 to January 2020. The results of this study indicate that learning Arabic in Islamic Boarding School MTsN 31 Jakarta runs well and positively, both in terms of curriculum, objectives, material, activities, and evaluation. The curriculum used is the curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Religion plus a modern pesantren curriculum. The students consisted of boys and girls aged 12-16 years and from different domiciles. All Arabic teachers are graduates from universities and boarding schools, who have experience in Arabic learning. The purpose of learning Arabic at Islamic Boarding School MTsN 31 Jakarta is to prepare a generation of Muslims who love Arabic, understand the Qur'an and the traditions of the Prophet. And help students to learn in school and improve their language skills. The learning material for Arabic comes from the "Heritage Book" book, and for syntactic and morphological lessons, the teacher uses Jurumiyah, Kafrawi and AmtsilahTashrifiyah books. And FiathulQorib's book is used in the reading method. The methods used in learning Arabic are the direct method, the reading method, the grammar and translation method, and the oral audio method. And learning media used are blackboards, textbooks, and projectors. While the evaluation in learning Arabic at Islamic Boarding School MTsN 31 Jakarta took the form of written evaluation and oral evaluation for final level students. And for learning activities have three basic activities, namely opening activities, core activities, and closing activities.
