Abstract
The decision not to have children, commonly referred to as childfree, has become an increasingly prominent topic of public discourse. Many health experts have engaged in discussions surrounding this issue due to its implications for physical and reproductive health. In Indonesia, the childfree phenomenon has sparked debate and controversy, as it is perceived to potentially disrupt population growth and raise health concerns. As more individuals, particularly from Generation Z, consider the childfree lifestyle, birth rates are projected to decline. This study aims to explore how health experts perceive and respond to the childfree phenomenon, examining both supportive and opposing viewpoints. Employing a critical discourse analysis approach, the research analyzes online news articles from Indonesian media platforms that explicitly present expert opinions on childfree choices. The study seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of how health-related factors influence the childfree decision and how media contribute to shaping the narrative surrounding this personal life choice. The findings are expected to offer valuable insights into the complexity of the childfree phenomenon from a health perspective and highlight the role of health professionals in influencing public opinion and discourse in digital spaces.
