Abstract
Parents of children with special needs face numerous challenges in caregiving, especially when they also have professional responsibilities. Balancing family and work life simultaneously can be demanding. This qualitative study aims to gain deeper insight into the experiences of working parents raising children with special needs. Using a phenomenological approach, this study explores the lived experiences of parents through descriptive analysis. Criterion sampling with a snowball method was used to recruit eight participants. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Moustakas' phenomenological method. The findings revealed two main themes: (1) making peace with the situation and (2) balancing family and work life. These findings can serve as a reference for specialists, counselors, and social work professionals in designing strategies and interventions to help working parents manage the emotional, psychological, and financial challenges of raising children with special needs. Some recommended strategies include open communication, establishing a structured routine, involving children in daily activities, workplace support, specialized parental training, assistance from specialists, utilizing assistive technology, creating household flexibility, social support, and stress management.
