Abstract
This study aims to describe the role of social support in shaping the resilience of single parents who perform dual roles in their daily lives. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study method involving three single parents with different backgrounds: divorce and widowhood. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns of meaning related to forms of social support, adaptation strategies, and the process of individual resilience formation. The research subjects consisted of three single parents: two single mothers and one single father. The findings indicate that social support—emotional, instrumental, and spiritual—plays a significant role in strengthening the psychological resilience of single parents. Support from the nuclear family, particularly from parents and children, serves as the main source of mental reinforcement, stress reduction, and role balance in fulfilling dual functions as both mother and father. This study affirms that social support functions not only as external assistance but also as a foundation for meaning making and self-determination in facing life pressures. The implications of this research suggest that understanding the dynamics of social support can enrich studies on family resilience and serve as a basis for developing more responsive social policies to meet the needs of single-parent families in Indonesia.
