J-KOMA Publication Ethics Statement

Introduction

J-KOMA (Journal of Computers and Its Applications) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. This Ethics Statement is adapted from the guidelines provided by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and best practices in scholarly publishing. All parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers—are expected to adhere to these principles to ensure the quality, credibility, and fairness of the research published in this journal.

1. Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors submitting manuscripts to J-KOMA must comply with the following ethical standards:

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is original and has not been published elsewhere. Any use of others’ work must be properly cited or referenced. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, is strictly prohibited and may result in rejection or retraction of the manuscript.
  • Data Integrity: Authors must present accurate and verifiable data. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data is unacceptable.
  • Authorship: All listed authors must have made a significant contribution to the research and writing of the manuscript. All co-authors must approve the final version and agree to its submission. Individuals who contributed but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately.
  • Multiple or Concurrent Submission: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously is prohibited.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, whether financial or personal, that could influence the results or interpretation of their work.
  • Corrections and Retractions: If an author discovers a significant error after publication, they must promptly notify the editorial board and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article.

2. Editors’ Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity and quality of the publication process:

  • Fairness: Editors must evaluate manuscripts based on academic merit, originality, and relevance, without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, or institutional affiliation.
  • Confidentiality: All submitted manuscripts must be treated as confidential and shared only with authorized reviewers or editorial staff.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist and ensure that editorial decisions are transparent and objective.
  • Review Oversight: Editors are responsible for selecting qualified reviewers and ensuring that the review process is fair, rigorous, and timely.
  • Ethical Oversight: Editors must investigate any suspected ethical misconduct, such as plagiarism or data manipulation, and take appropriate action, including rejection, correction, or retraction of the article.

3. Reviewers’ Responsibilities

Reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the quality of publications in J-KOMA and are expected to:

  • Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively, providing constructive and evidence-based feedback.
  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential and not discussed with others without the editor’s permission.
  • Timeliness: Reviewers should complete their evaluations within the agreed time frame.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and decline the review if impartiality cannot be maintained.
  • Ethical Reporting: Reviewers should report any suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, or data manipulation to the editor.

4. Publisher’s Responsibilities

As the publisher, J-KOMA is committed to ensuring ethical publishing practices:

  • Editorial Independence: The publisher does not interfere with editorial decisions.

  • Handling Misconduct: The publisher supports investigations into suspected ethical breaches and ensures appropriate actions are taken, including retraction or correction, in line with COPE guidelines.

5. Handling Ethical Misconduct

All suspected ethical violations will be thoroughly investigated through the following process:

  • Investigation: Allegations will be reviewed by the editorial board and, if necessary, external experts.
  • Fair Process: All parties involved will be given the opportunity to provide explanations or supporting evidence.
