Focus and Scope

Journal of Geography Science ISSN 3025-9355 (online) is a national scientific journal in Indonesia published by the Faculty of Social Sciences, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, in collaboration with the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM UNJ). The journal focuses on physical geography, human geography, and geographic information systems, and is published biannually.

Journal of Geography Science accepts original manuscripts that have not been previously published. The journal publishes articles covering studies within the following scopes:

  1. Applied Geomorphology and Landscape Dynamics: Covers landform analysis for disaster mitigation, watershed and coastal management, as well as studies on land cover/land use change, including the ecological, social, and economic implications of such changes using geospatial data and predictive modeling.
  2. Climate Dynamics and Global Change: Examines temperature trends and rainfall patterns, their impacts on the agricultural sector and water resources, as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in vulnerable areas.
  3. Marine Geography and Coastal Management: Analyzes physical processes and oceanographic dynamics, mapping of marine resources, as well as the vulnerability and adaptation of coastal regions to threats such as abrasion and sea-level rise. This scope also includes the evaluation and spatial planning of marine areas for sustainable management.
  4. Disaster Geography and Risk Management: Includes spatial analysis of natural hazards (floods, landslides, earthquakes, and tsunamis), community-based participatory disaster risk mapping, and the development of effective disaster risk management strategies.
  5. Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing: Focuses on the application of geospatial technology for mapping resources and environmental changes, the integration of GIS in disaster risk assessment, land suitability evaluation, and other spatial modeling.
  6. Human and Socio-Cultural Geography: Analyzes the spatial dynamics of population, urbanization, and social issues. This study also covers the spatial patterns of economic and cultural activities, the structure of urban-rural areas, and community accessibility to public services to support inclusive development.
  7. Regional Planning and Development: Focuses on the critical analysis of spatial structures, development patterns, and regional inequality. This scope includes the evaluation of spatial planning policies, strategic infrastructure planning, and the formulation of resilient and sustainable development models.
  8. Environmental Geography: Examines the spatial quality and carrying capacity of the environment, analysis of pollution distribution (water, air, soil), as well as biodiversity conservation strategies and environmental impact analysis to support sustainable management.
