Abstract
The Maritime Transportation Education and Training Center (BP2TL) Jakarta, is a training institution that is engaged in reviewing skills training actions, increasing the soft skills and hard skills capabilities of the community which is focused on the maritime scope. One of the trainings held is Basic Safety Training for Commercial Ships (BST-Niaga). This research aims to find out the reality in the field where alumni of Basic Safety Training for Commercial Ships (BST-Niaga) education and training participants work at Muara Angke Harbor, North Jakarta. The results of this research show descriptively the process of implementing self-defense techniques on the high seas carried out by the ship's crew by carrying out administrative checks, facilities and infrastructure to support safe sailing. If an emergency requires the crew to evacuate, the technique used is free fall. Ability to use APAR (Light Fire Extinguisher) and Nozzle as a preventive measure for dealing with fire hazards. First aid for victims on board is carried out by recognizing the symptoms, taking action if you understand and if in doubt, calling the medical team. Learning from experience, now crew members are more disciplined, work independently, are confident, help each other and are productive in carrying out work according to the division of work assignments.
