Abstract

Gandoang Site, located in Wanasigra, Ciamis, West Java, represents an important example of Indonesia’s cultural heritage that demonstrates the strong relationship between archaeological remains and contemporary community life. Although widely recognized as a megalithic site consisting of menhirs, dolmens, and sarcophagi from the prehistoric era, the significance of Gandoang goes beyond its tangible artifacts. For the local community, these stones embody spiritual meaning and serve as an integral component of traditional practices passed down through generations. The site functions as a dynamic cultural landscape where beliefs, rituals, and collective memory continuously interact with the surrounding environment. Research on the Gandoang Site emphasizes that the preservation of cultural heritage must not only focus on physical objects, but also on the continuity of social functions and cultural identity amid the challenges posed by modernization.
