The tradition of swaddling infants is a cultural practice that has been passed down from generation to generation in Indonesian society. For the older generation, this practice is generally viewed as a form of affection as well as an effort to maintain the baby’s comfort and health. However, with the development of globalization and increasing access to modern medical knowledge, differences in perspective have emerged among the younger generation, who tend to consider this tradition no longer relevant and restrictive of the baby’s freedom of movement. These differing viewpoints reflect changes in social values and cultural clashes within society. This study aims to analyze the shift in meaning and perceptions of the swaddling tradition in the context of social change, as well as to understand the value conflicts occurring between generations. The method used is a qualitative approach through literature review and online observation of public discussions on digital media. The data were analyzed by grouping the main themes related to the perceptions of the older generation, the views of the younger generation, and the influence of globalization on traditional practices. The results show that changes in perceptions of swaddling are not solely caused by modernization, but also by ongoing social interactions and the exchange of meanings in everyday life. The swaddling tradition has experienced a shift in meaning, from a symbol of protection and affection to a practice whose relevance is being questioned. In conclusion, the swaddling tradition has not been completely abandoned, but has undergone adjustments in meaning in accordance with the social and cultural context of modern Indonesian society.
