Abstract

This study aims to assess the level of social vulnerability to disasters in Linggajati Village, which is located within the Pacific Ring of Fire—one of the regions with the highest disaster risk in the world due to intense tectonic activity. Indonesia’s geological conditions present not only the threat of earthquakes but also volcanic disasters that can significantly disrupt community life. In this context, the village demonstrates high socio-economic vulnerability, requiring an in-depth analysis to identify potential material and human-related damages in the event of a disaster. This research adopts a quantitative approach by analyzing several key parameters, including population density, gender ratio, poverty rate, disability ratio, and the proportion of vulnerable age groups. The social vulnerability index is calculated by assigning a 60% weight to population density and 10% to each of the other parameters. The data used comes from the 2023 Linggajati Village monograph, which includes information on population size, poverty levels, age group distribution, and disability characteristics. The results of this study are expected to provide a comprehensive overview of disaster risks and serve as a strategic foundation for enhancing local-level disaster response and mitigation capacity.
