Abstract

This systematic literature review explores the growing need for accurate authorship attribution in identifying anonymous authors of defamatory texts on social media. As anonymous defamation becomes increasingly prevalent in Indonesia’s digital discourse, this study aims to map out recent advances, challenges, and methodologies in authorship attribution research over the last five years. Using PRISMA guidelines, relevant studies were selected from reputable databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and ACL Anthology based on inclusion criteria such as publication date (2019–2024), peer-reviewed status, and relevance to anonymous texts and forensic linguistics. The review reveals a shift from traditional stylometric techniques to the integration of machine learning and deep learning models, although the short, informal, and multilingual nature of social media texts poses significant challenges. This paper contributes to the field of Indonesian Language and Literature Education by demonstrating the critical role of computational linguistics in addressing contemporary issues of language abuse, identity, and ethical communication in the digital era. It also provides a research roadmap for applying forensic authorship techniques in educational and legal settings in Indonesia.
