Abstract

Literature is a tool to document life and the dynamics that develop and occur in society. This functionality of literature itself becomes a guideline for most writers to compose a work so as not to deviate from the reality of society. Therefore, literature has its own genre categories to highlight the type or outline of the substance of literary works. Arabia is no exception, a country that has had a literary heritage since the Jahiliyyah period. The development of literature is no longer a new thing until many writers with various characteristics were born in the country. Of particular interest is the horror or 'otherworldly' genre, which has not been touched much by the creativity of eastern writers. Whereas in the west, this genre has already developed and has many fans. This paper tries to provide a more in-depth description of the horror genre for Arab writers, by using a literature study, this research is analysed using library techniques. The results show that there have been several Arab writers who focus or try to write their works in the horror genre. Despite the difficulties in circulating such writings, it does not diminish the enthusiasm of Arab writers in producing works with genres that are considered 'new' in eastern countries.
