This study explores the forms and meanings of symbolic resistance in Sonallah Ibrahim's novel Al-Lajnah. The main focus is on how the characters in the literary work express criticism of the authoritarian regime through symbols, language, and non-violent actions. This study aims to uncover the mechanisms of covert resistance used by individuals or groups in a repressive context through the medium of literature. A qualitative approach is used, with critical textual reading techniques supported by contextual interpretation by considering the socio-political background. This study uses James C. Scott's theory of symbolic resistance, which emphasizes indirect forms of resistance such as irony, satire, silence, feigned obedience, and other non-confrontational expressions. The findings reveal that Sonallah Ibrahim's novel Al-Lajnah presents a form of symbolic resistance against the authoritarian regime through hidden and theatrical, ironic, and symbolic actions as a form of hidden transcripts in James C. Scott's theory. This resistance emphasizes that even under total repression, oppressed subjects still have space to associate their freedom and humanity through symbols, language, and the body.
