Peran LSM PIKUL dalam Gerakan Sosial-Eknomi di Pulau Semau

Abstract

This study examines the strategic role of PIKUL NGO in fostering socio-economic movements based on local potential in Semau Island, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. The research focuses on how NGOs act as facilitators to build independence and resilience among island communities through participatory and collaborative approaches. A descriptive qualitative case study was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with program managers, field observations, and document analysis. Data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation, while analysis followed the stages of reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that PIKUL’s participatory strategies successfully strengthened community capacity in managing local resources, improved economic well-being, and enhanced social solidarity and ecological awareness. Key programs include local food processing training, adaptive agriculture, renewable energy initiatives, and gender equality and social inclusion workshops. The study highlights that PIKUL’s empowerment model not only produces material benefits but also fosters critical awareness and self-confidence among communities. This model enriches community empowerment theory by emphasizing the importance of synergy between civil society organizations, local government, and grassroots communities in achieving sustainable development.
