Rasionalitas Siswa dalam Pemilihan Jurusan di SMA

This study aims to (1) describe the background of students' rationality in choosing a major in high school, and (2) explain the relationship between actors and resources in the decision-making process. The research method used is a qualitative case study approach, involving six 12th-grade students at SMA Negeri 97 Jakarta. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and literature study, then analyzed descriptively using Coleman's rational choice theory framework. The results of the study indicate that internal factors, especially interests, talents, and future orientation, are the main determinants in major selection. External factors such as parental support, peer influence, and the role of guidance counselors function as supporting factors, not the main determinants. In addition, students are able to consider the advantages and disadvantages of the chosen major. These findings confirm that major selection is the result of interactions between actors (students) and resources (family and self-potential), which impacts the direction of their education and career.
