KARAKTERISASI SIFAT FISIK DAN ABSORPSI OPTIKAL SISTEM KACA ZnO – MgO - P2O5 MENGGUNAKAN TEKNIK MELT QUENCHING

Abstrak
Pembuatan kaca fosfat dengan komposisi kimia x ZnO – 30 MgO – ( 70 – x ) P2O5 dengan x = 0, 5, 10, dan 15 mol% telah dilakukan menggunakan teknik melt quenching. Sistem kaca yang dibuat dikarakterisasi menggunakan difraksi sinar-X ( XRD ), pengujian sifat fisik dengan metode Archimedes, dan spektrofotometer UV-Vis untuk sifat optik. Hasil XRD menunjukkan bahwa kaca yang dibuat memiliki struktur amorf. Dari hasil pengujian fisik menunjukkan bahwa densitas kaca semakin menurun sedangkan volume molar meningkat dengan bertambahnya mol% ZnO. Absorpsi optikal diukur pada panjang gelombang 200 – 800 nm menunjukkan tidak adanya berkas absorpsi yang tajam. Dari hasil spektra absorpsi optikal menunjukkan bahwa nilai energi gap menurun sedangkan energi Urbach dan indeks refraktif kaca meningkat dengan bertambahnya mol% ZnO.

Abstract
Phosphate glass with the chemical composition x ZnO – 30 MgO – ( 70 – x ) P2O5 with x = 0, 5, 10, and 15 mol% was done by melt quenching technique. The glasses system were characterized with X-Ray diffraction, physical property was measured by using Archimedes method, and UV-Vis spectrophotometer for optical property. The result of X-Ray difraction pattern shows that the glass system has an amorphous structure. The result of physical properties show that the value of density is decreased but the molar volume is increased with the increase of mol% ZnO. The optical absorption was measured in the wavelength region 200 – 800 nm shows that there is no sharp absorption band edge. From absorption optical spectra shows that gap energy is decreased but Urbach energy and refractive index are increased with the increase of mol% ZnO.
