Abstract

Sprint performance is an essential component of basketball, enabling players to execute rapid movements during offensive and defensive situations. This study aimed to examine changes in sprint performance following a four-week plyometric cone hops training program among university basketball players. A quantitative pre-experimental study employing a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted. Twenty male basketball players aged 18–23 years were initially recruited through total sampling, of whom 17 completed the intervention and were included in the final analysis. The training program consisted of 12 sessions conducted three times per week over four weeks, incorporating cone hops with 180° turns and change-of-direction movements. Sprint performance was assessed using the 20-meter sprint test before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using a paired-samples t-test. The results demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in sprint time from 3.432 ± 0.334 seconds at pretest to 3.185 ± 0.227 seconds at posttest (p = 0.001), representing an average improvement of 0.247 seconds (7.2%). These findings suggest that a four-week plyometric cone hops training program may improve short-distance sprint performance in university basketball players. However, controlled studies are needed to establish its effectiveness.
