Abstract

ABSTRACT

Generation Z makes frequent financial and consumption decisions through digital platforms while facing climate risks, persuasive marketing, pay-later services, and environmental claims of varying credibility. This article examines how green financial literacy education can help Generation Z align financial well-being with sustainable lifestyles. An integrative literature review was conducted using scientific publications and policy documents issued mainly between 2019 and 2026. The synthesis links financial knowledge, sustainable-finance concepts, critical evaluation of environmental claims, budgeting, consumption, saving, investment, and risk protection. The findings indicate that effective education should move beyond conceptual knowledge. It must use contextual cases, simulations, personal action plans, digital nudges, and follow-up reflection so participants can assess affordability, risk, total life-cycle cost, and environmental impact simultaneously. A five-stage program is proposed: diagnosis, concept building, experiential practice, commitment to action, and evaluation. Suggested outcomes include improved knowledge, better scenario-based decisions, a greener personal budget, verified product selection, and consistent behavior after the program. The framework also emphasizes consumer protection and safeguards against greenwashing, impulsive digital spending, exclusion, and the assumption that every product labelled green is financially appropriate. Because this study does not report an implemented intervention, its contribution is a literature-based educational design that can be tested by universities and community partners.
