This study aims to understand the physical characteristics of soil in Tenggarong Seberang District as part of contextual geography learning. The soil found in Tenggarong Seberang District is easy to cultivate and not hard, both in wet and dry conditions. Soil is an important component of the geosphere system that plays a role in supporting life and natural resources. However, geography learning is often only theoretical without field experience, so that students' understanding becomes less meaningful. Field studies help in analyzing the indicators of physical characteristics of soil observed, namely color, texture, structure, and consistency to describe the characteristics of soil in the study area. Literature studies were used to provide an in-depth analysis of the relevance of field studies to geography learning in schools. The results of the study show that the soil in this area is coarse and sandy in texture, strong brown in color due to its iron oxide content, and has a large aggregate structure and easy-to-process consistency. This approach not only improves students' conceptual understanding but also their scientific skills, environmental awareness, and critical thinking skills. Geography learning not only produces students who understand scientific concepts but also shapes their ecological awareness and applied skills. Analysis of soil characteristics encourages students to understand the importance of sustainable natural resource management, including land suitability and the risk of degradation.
