Abstract

This study aims to analyze the affordability of public secondary education services in South Jakarta using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach and assess its suitability with the distribution of school-age population density. The data used include school locations, administrative boundaries, and the population aged 15–19 years per sub-district. The analysis was conducted using a buffer method with a radius of 3,000 meters to evaluate the spatial reach of public school services. The results show that only 16 public schools are spread across the region, while the number of private schools reaches 184 units. Overlaying the buffer map with the population density map reveals significant disparities, where the sub-districts of Pesanggrahan, Pancoran, Mampang Prapatan, and Setiabudi are not optimally served by public schools, despite having a high school-age population. The capacity of public schools is only able to serve approximately 3.9% of the total need. These findings indicate a spatial gap in the distribution of secondary education services. Therefore, this study recommends prioritizing the development of public schools in areas with high inaccessibility and high population density to support equitable access to education in dense urban environments.
