Mangrove forests on Tidung Kecil Island have great potential in absorbing blue carbon, so they can contribute to climate change mitigation. This study aims to measure the potential for carbon absorption by the mangrove ecosystem in the area as an effort to reduce the impact of global warming. This study used a stratified random sampling method with a plot size of 1m x 1m at four designated stations. The total area of the mangrove area was estimated using Sentinel-2A satellite imagery with the supervised classification method. Biomass and mangrove carbon stocks were calculated using allometric equations. The results showed that the total area of the mangrove area on Tidung Kecil Island was 2.31 ha-1 using supervised classification. The biomass of the entire mangrove area was estimated at Wi = 250.96 tons, with a total carbon stock of Cv = 117.94 tons. Based on the calculations, the mangrove ecosystem in this area is able to absorb carbon of EC = 432.86 tons of carbon dioxide. The mangrove ecosystem on Tidung Kecil Island has very good potential in absorbing carbon and contributing to climate change mitigation. The results of the observations carried out can be the basis for consideration of rehabilitation, preservation, research development, and increasing conservation efforts for the mangrove ecosystem on Tidung Kecil Island.
