Manuscript Types
Jurnal Ilmiah Sport Coaching and Education (JSCE), Universitas Negeri Jakarta accepts two types of manuscripts. Authors should select the manuscript type that best represents the purpose, methodology, and contribution of their work and use the appropriate manuscript template provided by the journal.
- Original Research Article
5,000–8,000 words
Double-anonymous review
Two files
An Original Research Article reports original empirical research that makes a clear scientific and/or practical contribution to the fields of sport coaching, sport education, sport performance, physical fitness, exercise science, motor learning, athlete development, sport psychology, sport pedagogy, sport management, or related sport sciences.
Original research may employ quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, experimental, quasi-experimental, correlational, descriptive, observational, or research and development (R&D) approaches, provided that the methodology is scientifically justified and appropriately reported.
Structure
The manuscript should generally follow this structure:
- Introduction
- Research background and context
- Research problem
- Relevant theoretical or conceptual framework
- Research gap
- Novelty/originality
- Research objectives and/or research questions
- Method
- Research design
- Participants/subjects
- Research setting
- Instruments and measurement procedures
- Training/intervention procedures, where applicable
- Data collection procedures
- Data analysis
- Ethical considerations
- Results and Discussion
- Presentation of findings
- Statistical or qualitative results
- Interpretation of findings
- Comparison with previous studies
- Theoretical and practical implications
- Conclusion
- Main findings
- Scientific contribution
- Practical implications
- Limitations and/or recommendations, where appropriate
For experimental and intervention studies, the manuscript should clearly describe the training program, intervention characteristics, duration, frequency, intensity, participants, comparison/control conditions, and outcome measures.
For Research and Development (R&D) studies, authors should clearly describe the development model, needs analysis, design, expert validation, product revision, feasibility testing, field testing, and effectiveness evaluation, as applicable.
Abstract
The abstract should contain 200–250 words and clearly describe:
- Purpose – the objective or research problem;
- Methods – research design, participants, instruments, intervention, and/or analytical approach;
- Results – the principal findings;
- Conclusion – the main scientific or practical implication; and
- Originality/Value – the novelty or contribution of the study.
Keywords
Provide 3–6 keywords that accurately represent the main concepts, variables, population, sport, or methodology of the study.
References
- Preferably more than 25 references for a full research article.
- Authors should prioritize recent and relevant scholarly literature.
- At least 80% of references should preferably come from peer-reviewed scientific journals published within the last 10 years, unless older sources are foundational or represent established theories, measurement instruments, training principles, or seminal research.
- International literature should be appropriately represented where relevant.
- References must follow APA 7th edition.
Research Ethics
Research involving human participants, including athletes, coaches, students, children, adolescents, teams, or other participants, must comply with applicable research-ethics standards.
Where required, authors should provide information regarding:
- ethics approval;
- informed consent;
- parental/guardian consent for minors;
- participant assent where applicable;
- confidentiality and data protection; and
- other relevant ethical safeguards.
For research involving athletes under 18 years of age, appropriate parental/guardian consent and participant assent should be obtained in accordance with the applicable ethical requirements.
- Systematic Literature Review
5,000–8,000 words
PRISMA 2020
Double-anonymous review
Two files + PRISMA checklist
A Systematic Literature Review synthesizes existing scientific research addressing a clearly defined question or research problem within sport coaching, sport education, sport science, athlete development, physical training, motor learning, sport performance, sport psychology, sport pedagogy, or related fields.
JSCE does not accept a conventional narrative literature review submitted as a systematic review. The review must employ a transparent, reproducible, and methodologically justified systematic procedure.
Structure
The manuscript should include:
Introduction
The introduction should establish:
- the research problem;
- theoretical or conceptual framework;
- scientific context;
- research gap;
- rationale for conducting the review; and
- clearly formulated review objectives and/or research questions.
Method
The Method section must provide sufficient detail to allow the review to be understood and replicated, including:
- review protocol;
- registration, where applicable;
- research questions;
- eligibility and exclusion criteria;
- databases searched;
- search strategy;
- keywords and Boolean operators;
- publication-period restrictions;
- language restrictions, where applicable;
- study-selection procedures;
- duplicate removal;
- screening procedures;
- full-text assessment;
- quality or risk-of-bias appraisal;
- data extraction; and
- synthesis procedures.
Results
The Results section should report:
- number of records identified;
- records screened;
- full-text articles assessed;
- studies included;
- characteristics of included studies;
- methodological characteristics;
- participant/population characteristics;
- major themes or variables;
- principal findings; and
- results of quality/risk-of-bias assessment.
Discussion
The Discussion should:
- interpret the findings;
- identify patterns and inconsistencies;
- compare findings across studies;
- discuss theoretical implications;
- identify implications for sport coaching, education, training, or athlete development;
- identify limitations in the existing evidence; and
- propose directions for future research.
Conclusion
The conclusion should summarize the principal evidence and its implications for sport coaching and sport education research and practice.
Title
The title must clearly identify the article as a systematic literature review.
Examples:
- A Systematic Literature Review of Small-Sided Games in Youth Football Development
- Systematic Review of Coordination Training and Passing Performance in Youth Futsal
- A Systematic Literature Review of Motor Learning Approaches in Football Coaching
Abstract
The abstract should contain 200–250 words and follow the relevant recommendations of PRISMA 2020 for Abstracts.
Required PRISMA Materials
Authors must provide:
- a PRISMA 2020 flow diagram within the manuscript; and
- a completed PRISMA 2020 checklist as a supplementary file.
The review should clearly report the search and selection process so that readers can understand how the final body of evidence was established.

JSCE does not accept manuscripts that:
- fall outside the scope of sport coaching, sport education, sport science, or related disciplines;
- are purely descriptive without an adequate theoretical, conceptual, or scientific framework;
- present training programs without appropriate methodological justification or evaluation;
- provide only a routine description of athlete performance without meaningful scientific analysis;
- are narrative literature reviews presented as systematic reviews;
- are opinion pieces without an appropriate scholarly research basis;
- have been published previously;
- are simultaneously under consideration by another journal;
- contain substantial plagiarism or inappropriate text reuse;
- contain fabricated, falsified, or manipulated data;
- contain undisclosed conflicts of interest that may affect the integrity of the research; or
