Authorship Criteria

Purpose and Commitment

Sarwahita: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat is committed to maintaining ethical standards in authorship and contributorship. This policy ensures that all individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to a manuscript receive appropriate recognition, while promoting transparency, accountability, and fairness throughout the publication process. The journal follows the ethical principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and relevant best practices in scholarly publishing.

Criteria for Authorship

To qualify as an author of a manuscript submitted to Sarwahita, an individual must meet all the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contribution: Have made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the community service program, the development of its implementation methods, the acquisition or analysis of data, or the interpretation of program outcomes.

  2. Drafting and Critical Revision: Have participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final Approval: Have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript before submission and publication.

  4. Accountability: Have agreed to be accountable for their contributions and to help ensure that questions concerning the accuracy, integrity, or ethical conduct of the work are appropriately addressed.

All four criteria must be fulfilled for an individual to qualify as an author.

Participation in a community service activity, provision of funding, administrative support, institutional leadership, or assistance with data collection alone does not automatically qualify an individual for authorship.

Contributorship

Individuals who contribute to a community service program or manuscript but do not meet all the authorship criteria should be appropriately acknowledged, with their consent, in the Acknowledgments section.

Examples of contributions that may be acknowledged include:

  • Assistance with community service activities and program implementation.

  • Support in participant recruitment, data collection, or logistical arrangements.

  • Technical assistance and provision of facilities or equipment.

  • Administrative coordination and institutional support.

  • Funding and other material resources.

  • Editorial or language assistance.

Contributors who make substantial intellectual contributions and fulfill all four authorship criteria should be listed as authors rather than acknowledged solely as contributors.

Authorship Declaration

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that:

  • All listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.

  • All authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript.

  • All authors agree to the authorship list and the order in which their names appear.

  • The contributions of each author are accurately reported.

  • Individuals who contributed to the work but do not qualify for authorship are appropriately acknowledged, with their consent.

The journal may request an authorship declaration or contribution statement to clarify the role of each author. Any disagreement regarding authorship must be resolved before the manuscript proceeds to publication.

Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after manuscript submission must be supported by a written explanation from the corresponding author. The request must include written agreement from all listed authors and any individuals proposed to be added or removed, as applicable.

The editorial team will assess the request in accordance with the journal's policies and applicable publication ethics guidelines. Changes will only be implemented after editorial approval. If an authorship dispute cannot be resolved by the authors, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant institutions for further investigation.

Equal Contributions

Where two or more authors have contributed equally to the work, this contribution may be indicated in the manuscript through an appropriate statement or footnote. The corresponding author should inform the editorial team of any equal-contribution designation at the time of submission.

Prevention of Authorship Misconduct

Sarwahita prohibits unethical authorship practices, including:

  • Gift Authorship: Listing individuals as authors despite their failure to meet the authorship criteria.

  • Ghost Authorship: Omitting individuals who have made qualifying intellectual contributions to the work.

  • Honorary Authorship: Including individuals as authors solely because of their position, seniority, institutional affiliation, or personal relationship.

  • Undisclosed Contributions: Failing to acknowledge relevant contributions or misrepresenting the roles performed by authors and contributors.

Suspected authorship misconduct will be handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and relevant COPE guidance. Depending on the circumstances, the journal may request clarification, suspend the review process, reject the manuscript, or take appropriate post-publication action.

Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT)

Sarwahita encourages authors to use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to describe individual contributions transparently. Relevant roles may include:

  • Conceptualization

  • Methodology

  • Investigation

  • Data Curation

  • Formal Analysis

  • Project Administration

  • Resources

  • Software

  • Validation

  • Visualization

  • Writing – Original Draft

  • Writing – Review and Editing

  • Supervision

  • Funding Acquisition

Authors should select only the roles that accurately reflect their actual contributions. The CRediT taxonomy supports transparent contribution reporting but does not replace the journal's authorship eligibility criteria.

Transparency and Accountability

Sarwahita reserves the right to request additional documentation or clarification concerning authorship, individual contributions, and the integrity of submitted manuscripts. Failure to comply with this policy may result in editorial action, including manuscript rejection or, where warranted, correction or retraction of a published article.

Policy Review

This policy may be reviewed periodically to maintain alignment with recognized publication ethics standards, COPE guidance, and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
