About the Journal

COMMUNICATIONS is an international, peer-reviewed journal published by Universitas Negeri Jakarta and accredited SINTA 4 (Indonesia). The journal uses a single-blind peer-review process and adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. COMMUNICATIONS is published biannually (January and July) and operates under a Diamond Open Access model (no article processing charges). All articles are published with a DOI (10.21009/communications) and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), with copyright retained by the author(s). The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Dr. Dini Safitri and welcomes contributions from national and international authors in the field of Communication Studies.

Vol. 8 No. 1 (2026): COMMUNICATIONS

COMMUNICATIONS Vol. 8 No. 1 (January 2026) collectively examine contemporary issues in communication studies from diverse empirical and theoretical perspectives. The studies explore topics including community-based branding and MSME empowerment, digital and social media practices, communication strategies in local and institutional contexts, media literacy, and socio-cultural dynamics in mediated communication. Using predominantly qualitative approaches, the articles highlight how communication practices shape identity, participation, empowerment, and meaning-making in everyday social settings. Together, these contributions strengthen the journal’s focus on applied communication research and offer critical insights for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers in the evolving media and communication landscape.

COMMUNICATIONS is an international, peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing scholarship in the field of Communication Studies. The journal is published by Universitas Negeri Jakarta and is institutionally managed by the Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LPPM), the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, and the Communication Science Study Program of Universitas Negeri Jakarta, in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Communication Journal Managers (APJIKI) under Memorandum of Understanding No. 187/MOU/APJIKI/II/2023. This institutional collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening communication research and its practical relevance.

The journal is officially registered with Crossref and publishes articles with assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOI). COMMUNICATIONS has been nationally accredited through ARJUNA, Indonesia’s journal accreditation system, and is currently ranked SINTA 4 by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek). Each issue is published under e-ISSN 2684-8392 and p-ISSN 2807-8802.

 

Focus and Scope

COMMUNICATIONS publishes scholarly works that contribute to theoretical development, empirical investigation, and critical reflection in Communication Studies. While the journal remains open to interdisciplinary perspectives, its primary focus includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Political, Power, and Crisis Communication
  • Media Literacy and Communication Education
  • Health Communication
  • Cultural, Gender and Identity Communication
  • Strategic Communication and Communication Business

 

Publication Ethics and Peer Review Process

The journal adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors. All manuscripts submitted to COMMUNICATIONS undergo a single-blind peer review process.

Submissions are first evaluated through an initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet basic requirements proceed to peer review, during which reviewers assess originality, methodological rigor, analytical depth, scientific contribution, clarity of conclusions, and the quality of references. Based on reviewers’ recommendations, editors determine whether a manuscript is accepted, requires revision, or is rejected.

Manuscripts may be rejected if they:

  • Fall outside the journal’s scope
  • Do not comply with the author guidelines and the author is unwilling to revise
  • Exceed 15% similarity based on plagiarism detection
  • Contain content promoting cigarettes or tobacco companies

 

Open Access Policy

COMMUNICATIONS is committed to promoting the widest possible access to scholarly knowledge. All articles published in the journal are open access, allowing readers to freely read, download, and distribute the content. The journal applies the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), enabling unrestricted use of published works with proper attribution.
