Journal History

BIOMA started in 1978 as a joint venture between students and lecturers of IKIP Jakarta. During these wonderful times, lecturers and students worked together to develop their beloved department, thus equally positioned as writer and publisher, where both can write anything (almost absolutely anything, from plant reproduction to Halley's comet).

In our archival, we do not possess the maiden edition of BIOMA, however we have the second edition (1978, pictured courtesy of the late Prof. Anwar Arif) in cyan buffalo paper cover, braving a combination of handdrawing and typewriting. What is written inside is absolutely amazing, with contents were made up of stenciled brownish papers, also in combination of handwriting and typewriting. There was no need of administration, there was no need of legalization (hence there was no ISSN available); this journal was made for those who want to write and publish.

Progressing to the 21st century, BIOMA obtained its P-ISSN in 2007 and ten years later, in 2017, its E-ISSN, both during the tenure of LIPI. During this time, BIOMA was first accredited SINTA 4 ranking.
