Focus

BIOMA is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal devoted to the publication of high-quality original research in the biological sciences. The journal seeks to advance our understanding of living organisms and the processes that shape biological systems across different levels of organization, from molecules and cells to organisms, populations, and ecosystems. BIOMA provides a forum for the communication of scientific findings that contribute to the development of biological knowledge, support biodiversity conservation, encourage innovation in life science research, and promote the sustainable management of biological resources. By fostering the exchange of ideas and discoveries from diverse geographic, ecological, and scientific contexts, BIOMA aims to strengthen the role of biological research in addressing both current and emerging challenges facing society and the natural world.

Scope

BIOMA welcomes original research articles from all fields of biological sciences. The journal covers studies in biodiversity and conservation biology, biosystematics, taxonomy and evolutionary biology, ecology and environmental biology, physiology and developmental biology, ethology and behavioral ecology, genetics, genomics and molecular biology, biotechnology and applied biology, microbiology and immunology, botany and plant sciences, zoology and animal biology, virology and infectious disease biology, human biology and biomedical sciences, as well as marine, freshwater, and terrestrial biology. The journal encourages research conducted at molecular, cellular, organismal, population, community, and ecosystem levels, including interdisciplinary studies whose primary contribution advances biological understanding. BIOMA currently accepts submissions of original research articles that present novel data and findings. Review articles, short communications or short reports, and editorials are considered by invitation only.
