Abstract

Educational transformation towards the Society 5.0 era demands a paradigm shift in school leadership, moving from an administrative-bureaucratic approach to a strategic, data-driven, and human-centric approach. This study aims to deconstruct the role of the Student Management Information System (SMIS), often viewed merely as a digital archiving tool, into a vital instrument for principals' strategic decision-making. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with the PRISMA protocol, this study critically reviews 35 reputable articles from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases spanning from 2015 to 2025. The synthesis of literature reveals that modern SMIS has evolved from mere record-keeping to a predictive Decision Support System (DSS). Optimal utilization of SMIS enables principals to execute three key strategic maneuvers: (1) Personalization of learning services based on student profiles; (2) Mitigation of dropout risks through an early warning system; and (3) Equitable allocation of school resources. This study concludes that the effectiveness of SMIS in the Society 5.0 era is not determined solely by algorithmic sophistication, but by the principal's data literacy in translating statistics into policies that humanize the educational ecosystem.
