AI Policy

  1. Introduction

    Jurnal Studi Al-Qur’an (JSQ) recognizes the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) and its ability to support authors throughout the research and writing process. JSQ welcomes advances in this field, which provide opportunities to generate ideas, accelerate the dissemination of research findings, synthesize or analyze results, improve language usage, and draft manuscripts.

    Large Language Models (LLMs) or Generative AI offer opportunities to accelerate research and its dissemination. While these opportunities can bring significant change, these technologies cannot replicate human creativity and critical thinking. JSQ policy on the use of AI technology has been formulated to assist authors, reviewers, and editors in making ethical judgments regarding its use.

  2. Permitted Use of AI Tools

    Authors are permitted to utilize AI tools to support various aspects of manuscript writing, including:

    1. Editing and proofreading: AI tools can help identify grammatical and spelling errors and improve text fluency.
    2. Reference management: AI tools can facilitate citation management, reference formatting, and bibliography organization.
    3. Plagiarism checking: AI-based tools can be used to ensure the originality and integrity of manuscripts.
    4. Data analysis: AI algorithms can assist in analyzing complex data and presenting results clearly.
  3. Prohibited Use of AI Tools

    While AI tools can assist in manuscript preparation, their use is not permitted in the following cases:

    1. Content generation: AI tools must not be used to generate the main content of a manuscript. Authors are expected to contribute original ideas and scholarly analysis.
    2. Unethical practices: AI tools must not be used for data manipulation or any other unethical activity.
  4. Recommendations for Using AI Tools

    Authors utilizing AI tools are advised to:

    1. Verify AI-generated content: Carefully review and validate all AI-assisted outputs.
    2. Transparent disclosure: Clearly disclose the use of AI tools during the submission process.
    3. Acknowledgments: Appropriately acknowledge AI tool contributions in the manuscript.
  5. Ethical Considerations

    Authors must adhere to ethical guidelines and academic integrity when using AI tools. Any copyright infringement or unethical practice will be considered a violation of publication ethics.

  6. Editorial Review

    Manuscripts submitted to JSQ, whether AI-assisted or not, will undergo a peer review process to assess scientific merit and compliance with ethical standards.

  7. Policy Review

    This policy on the use of AI tools may be reviewed and updated in accordance with developments in AI technology.
