Author Guidelines

JSQ: Jurnal Studi Al-Qur’an

1. General Requirements

• Originality: The manuscript must be original, free from plagiarism (similarity ≤ 20%; see Plagiarism Screening), and not under consideration elsewhere.
• Language and template: Written in English using the official Manuscript Template (Microsoft Word, A4).
• Layout: Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, justified, 1 cm paragraph indent. Arabic text uses Sakkala Majjala 16 pt.
• Length: 15–30 pages, including references.
• Files: Submit through the OJS portal as two files: an anonymized manuscript and a separate Title Page with author details.

2. Article Structure

• Title: Concise and specific, maximum 15 words.
• Title Page only: Author names (without academic titles), affiliation, email, ORCID iD, and the corresponding author.
• Abstract: One paragraph in English (100–200 words) and Indonesian (100–150 words), covering the problem, objectives, methods, and results; 3–5 keywords.
• Introduction: Background, research problem, objectives, theoretical framework, and relevant literature.
• Research Methods: Research design, data or primary sources, data collection, and analysis.
• Results and Discussion: Findings with scholarly interpretation, using numbered subheadings (1, 2, …) and sub-subheadings (a, b, …).
• Conclusion: Key findings, answers to the research questions, and recommendations.

3. Tables and Figures

• Labels and titles are centered, bold, 12 pt; table content uses 8–11 pt, single-spaced.
• Sources and notes are placed below the table or figure, centered, Times New Roman 11 pt.
• Every table and figure must be cited and discussed in the text.

4. Citation and References

• Style: Footnotes following Turabian 8th edition. Body notes and endnotes are not accepted.
• Footnotes: Include the author’s full name, title (italicized), place of publication, publisher, year, and page.
• Repeated citations: Use shortened titles; do not use ibid., op. cit., or loc. cit.
• Number of references: At least 30 references.
• Currency: At least 80% of the references should be journal articles published in the last 10 years. Classical primary sources, such as tafsir works, hadith collections, and other turāth texts, are not counted in this percentage.
• Bibliography: List only sources cited in the footnotes, and include DOIs where available.
• A reference manager such as Zotero or Mendeley is recommended.

5. Transliteration and Islamic Sources

• Transliteration: Follow the Library of Congress (LoC) system.
• Qur’an: Give the surah name, surah number, and verse in brackets, e.g., (QS al-Mu’min [40]:43).
• Hadith: Name the collector (e.g., HR al-Bukhārī) and cite the standard collections (Kutub al-Tis’ah).

6. Declarations

Place the following statements after the Conclusion and before the references:

• Ethics Statement: Ethical approval and informed consent, or "Not applicable" for textual research (see Ethical Clearance).
• Author Contributions: Each author’s role using CRediT (see Authorship and Contributorship).
• Conflict of Interest: Any relevant interests (see Conflict of Interest).
• Funding: Sources of financial support.
• Use of AI: Any use of AI tools (see AI Policy).
• Acknowledgments: Brief thanks for technical or financial support.

7. Review and Publication

• Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two reviewers through double-blind peer review. Authors revise according to reviewer and editor comments (see Peer Review Process).
• Submission is free. An Article Processing Charge applies only after acceptance.
• Published articles are open access under the CC BY 4.0 license, and authors retain copyright.
